Questions & Answers

What is OT?

Occupational Therapy aims to help people of all ages to be able to participate in their activities of daily living. This can vary by setting in which Occupational Therapy is provided. According to the AOTA (2023), Occupational therapy uses everyday life activities to promote health and well-being.

Who will recommend OT services?

Based on your pediatrician's observations and your concerns for your child(s) development, a pediatrician will refer your child for OT evaluation and services. In order to provide services, The Children's Clinic requires a current referral to be sent directly to our clinic administration.

Why does my child need OT?

If your child is referred for Occupational Therapy Evaluation, there are likely areas of concern in their development, fine motor skills, self-regulation and attention abilities or they are sensory seeking. Our occupational therapist(s) will review your child's medical records and go over all findings with you. Our therapist(s) understand that this can be a cumbersome process and will do their best to answer all questions you might have about your child's needs, strengths, areas of growth and your goals for your child as well.

How long will my child need OT for?

Typically, an OT evaluation is initially completed and then services are rendered for 6 months. In 6 months, if the child has not been discharged from services yet, a re-evaluation will take place to assess your child's growth and identify new areas of need.
